FAQs

This page covers everything you need to know before, during and after your session with Hazel McCartney Therapy.

If you’re unsure about anything, you’re welcome to get in touch or book a free discovery call to talk things through.

Booking and Appointments

How do I book a session?
You can book directly through my booking page. It’s quick and simple to choose your session type, date and time.

How do I pay?
You can pay when you book, or select ‘Pay in person’ if you prefer. Payments can be made in person or online.

If you’re claiming through a private health insurance provider, I can provide an invoice or receipt on request. Gift vouchers are available to purchase through my store.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot make your session. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows the time to be offered to someone else.

You can make changes through your booking or contact me directly. Details of the cancellation policy are included in the Terms and Conditions sent to new clients.

What if I’m not sure which service is right for me?
You’re welcome to book a free discovery call to talk through what you’re looking for and decide what feels right. Counselling clients are welcome to arrange a free discovery call first to see if we’re a good fit.

How often should I book sessions?
It depends on what you’re looking for support with. Some people come regularly to maintain balance and wellbeing, while others book as needed. We can discuss what feels right for you at your first session.

Before your session

Please read the guidance below before attending your appointment.

How should I prepare for a session with Hazel?

For counselling (online or in-person):
It can help to allow a little time before and after your session, so you’re not rushing. If attending online, please make sure you’re in a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable speaking openly and where conversations cannot be overheard.

For massage (in-person only):

  • Try to avoid heavy meals shortly before your session. A light snack beforehand is fine if needed.

  • Drinking water before your treatment may help your body respond well to massage.

  • Where possible, limit caffeine beforehand

  • Please attend with good personal hygiene, and avoid wearing strong perfumes or fragrances, as these can be uncomfortable in close treatment settings.

What if I feel unwell on the day?

If you have a fever, infection, contagious illness or feel unwell on the day of your appointment, please contact me to rearrange. Therapy is not suitable when the body is fighting illness and treatment may need to be postponed for your safety.

During your session

What can I expect at my first session?
Each session begins with time to talk and check in. This allows you to share how you’re feeling and what you’d like support with before moving into treatment or counselling. The pace is gentle, and you’ll never be rushed.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
No, everything you need will be provided. The treatment room has oils, towels, blankets, heaters and anything else needed for your comfort.

How should I dress for my treatment?
You’ll be invited to remove clothing, but your comfort is always the priority. Wear something comfortable and that you don’t mind getting a little oil or cream residue on. Towels or blankets are available if you’d like them. For counselling, reflexology and reiki, everyday clothing is completely fine.

Do I need to be clothed during my treatment?
For massage, you can choose to wear as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Some treatments work best with minimal clothing, but it’s entirely your choice. Towels or blankets can be provided if you prefer.

The space is private and respectful, and you’ll be guided through what to expect before we begin.

What are your professional boundaries?
All treatments are provided within a professional therapeutic setting. Inappropriate behaviour, requests or conduct will result in the session being ended immediately.

After your session

What should I do after my session?

After your session, it can help to take things gently. Try to stay hydrated and allow yourself some time to rest, particularly after massage.

For counselling, you may find it helpful to give yourself a little space afterwards to reflect before returning to your day.

Should I avoid anything after my session?
It is best to avoid alcohol and recreational drugs after your session, and to continue drinking water and resting where possible.

Is it normal to feel sore or tired after a massage?
Some people may feel mild soreness or tiredness after a massage. This usually settles within a day or two.
